This study aimed to assess the feasibility of spray pollination for commercial date palm cultivars of Saomrun and Barhee in Khuzestan province. The treatments included three pollen concentrations (0.25 g/L, 0.50 g/L, and 1.00 g/L) and traditional hand pollination as a control, each tested with five replicates. The results showed that for both Saomrun and Barhee cultivars, the lowest fruit set and yield were observed at the lowest pollen concentration, while the highest were achieved with traditional pollination. Increasing pollen concentration led to higher fruit set and yield; however, at the highest tested concentrations, these values were still lower than those achieved with traditional pollination. For Saomrun, the highest fruit set and yield at 1.00 g/L were 45.8% and 3.99 kg per cluster, respectively, compared to 55.8% and 4.74 kg per cluster with traditional pollination. For Barhee, the highest fruit set and yield at 1.00 g/L were 32.7% and 3.49 kg per cluster, respectively, compared to 50.6% and 7.78 kg per cluster with traditional pollination. Additionally, parthenocarpic fruit formation and fruit drop rates were evaluated, showing significant variations across treatments. The study concluded that spray pollination, with a slight increase in pollen concentration, could be a viable backup method for Saomrun pollination under crisis conditions. However, further research is needed to determine the optimal pollen concentration for Barhee spray pollination and to explore the potential benefits of this method in commercial date palm cultivation.
