Abstract

Orchids are one of the most popular plants in the world and among them Phalaenopsis genus have the most sales in a Global Market, because of its hard propagation. Micropropagation has been employed recently. In this study, we examined the best time for pollination for producing seed capsules and its effect on seed germination, best hypochlorite concentration for disinfection of seed capsules and comparison of three media; chen, ½ MS and Vacin & Went on seed germination of 'Phalaenopsis amabilis cv. Cool Breeze'. The results showed that the highest seed capsules were obtained from the flowers, pollinated in January with an average of 4/07 capsule for every five florets. The best result of dis-infection obtained from 4% hypochlorite treatment. Maximum germination was observed with 97% of the chen medium from capsules produced from flowers treated in February. The resulted seedling had 99% viability when cultured in medium containing cocopeat, charcoal, mineral pumices and fragments composites volume of ratio 1:1:2:4.
